The Rebordosa school revolves around a central courtyard. It is a sober and distinguished structure that contrasts with a setting filled with references, shapes and colours. The school has been conceived as an area for containment and integration, a point of reference for other experiments in architecture that are gathered here.
The method for composition was not to add volumes or planes, or other elements for the construction of the whole that comprises the shape of the building. On the contrary, we started with a stable element, a rectangular shape that the contingencies and constraints of the land established as the only option when defining its implantation.
Accordingly, the design and construction process became almost sculptural. From the pure shape, closed and rough, matter was carved away in a quest for the essential. By adjusting, cutting out and adapting, parts were removed in order to reveal the whole.
This game of subtraction created spaces, opened windows, gave form to an architecture of light and shadow. It is in this context that the courtyard emerges, at the heart of the building and around which other spaces are developed. This desire to create a variety of spaces generates the interior play areas, from where you can see people walking by and which protects those who are within. The vertical incisions on the walls let the light in, reflecting the life and the colour that the concrete walls conceal, revealing a little of the vibrant and fluid interior, and contradicting the denser and more closed image of the exterior.
